सैलजा ने कहा कि कोरोना की वजह से प्रदेश में हालात बिगड़ने लगे तो स्वास्थ्य विभाग ने जुलाई 2020 में 2212 कर्मियों की ठेके पर भर्ती की थी। इनमें मेडिकल व पैरामैडिकल स्टाफ शामिल था। कोरोना पीड़ितों के पास जब हर कोई जाने से बच रहा था तो इन्होंने अपनी जान को जोखिम में डाला। इनमें से किसी ने कोरोना के सैंपल एकत्रित किए तो किसी ने उन सैंपल की जांच की। किसी ने कोरोना मरीजों को समय पर दवाएं दी तो किसी ने उन तक खाना पहुंचाया।
कहा कि इनकी मेहनत की बदौलत लाखों लोगों की जान बच गई, वरना मौतों का आंकड़ा
प्रदेश में और भी भयावह हो सकता था। संसाधनों की कमी के बीच इनकी कड़ी मेहनत और
सेवा भाव को देखते हुए प्रदेश सरकार को इन्हें सम्मानित करना चाहिए था, लेकिन सरकार इनके ही पीछे
पड़ गई है और 31
मार्च को इनकी सेवाओं को भी समाप्त कर दिया गया।
सैलजा ने कहा कि इसके बाद से ये कर्मचारी भयंकर गर्मी के बीच अपनी आवाज सरकार तक पहुंचाने की कोशिश में जुटे हैं और लगातार धरने-प्रदर्शन का सहारा ले रहे हैं। लेकिन, सरकार मूकदर्शक बनी हुई है। युवाओं के लिए नए रोजगार सृजित करने की बजाए अब ठेके पर कार्यरत कर्मियों को भी हटाकर घर बैठा रही है, जो कि सरासर गलत है।
पूर्व केंद्रीय मंत्री ने कहा कि प्रदेश भर में स्वीकृत पदों के मुकाबले स्वास्थ्य विभाग में 36 प्रतिशत पद खाली पड़े हैं। जिला अस्पतालों से लेकर स्वास्थ्य केंद्रों तक में मरीजों का इलाज करने वाले डॉक्टर्स से लेकर स्टाफ नर्स तक के पद खाली हैं। लेबोरेट्रियों में जांच करने वाले विशेषज्ञों का अभाव है। देखा जाए तो स्टाफ नर्स के दो हजार से ज्यादा, डॉक्टरों के एक हजार से ज्यादा पद खाली हैं। लैब टेक्निशियन व रेडियोग्राफर की पोस्ट खाली होने से मरीजों की जांच प्रभावित होती हैं।

leader and former Union Minister Kumari Selja said that instead of honoring the
workers who dared to save the lives of people by risking their lives during the
dreadful situation of Corona, the BJP-JJP alliance government made them to site
at their homes. The services of 2212 contractual workers in the health
department had been terminated and now they were forced to protest in the
scorching afternoon to get their employment again.
In a statement issued to the media, Kumari Selja said that when the situation started deteriorating in the state due to Corona, the Health Department had recruited 2212 personnel on contract in July 2020. These included medical and paramedical staff. When everyone was avoiding going near the Corona victims, they risked their lives. Some of them collected samples of corona patients, some examined those samples. Some gave medicines to the corona patients on time, while some brought food for them. The former Union Minister said that due to their hard work, lakhs of lives were saved, otherwise the death toll could have been more frightening in the state. In view of their hard work and service spirit amidst the paucity of resources, the state government should have honored them, but the government were after them and their services were also terminated on 31 March.
Kumari Selja said that since then these employees were trying to raise their issues with the government in the midst of the scorching heat and were constantly resorting to dharna-demonstration. But, the government remained a mute spectator. Instead of creating new jobs for the youth, it was now removing the contract workers and making them sit at home, which was totally wrong. The former Union Minister said that 36 percent posts were lying vacant in the Health Department as against the sanctioned posts across the state. From district hospitals to health centers, the posts of doctors treating patients to staff nurses were vacant. There was a dearth of experts in laboratories. If seen, more than two thousand posts of staff nurses, more than one thousand posts of doctors were vacant. Due to vacant posts of Lab Technician and Radiographer, the examination of patients was affected. In view of the poor health services, Kumari Selja demanded the state government to issue orders to immediately re-employ 2212 covid workers, who were removed recently.
